after some upgrades, phpMyAdmin will no longer log in;
\n#2000 Cannot log in to the MySQL Server<\/p>\n

to fix this I had to update the passwords to the longer version
\nUPDATE user set Password = PASSWORD(‘my_password’) where User=’root’ and Host=’127.0.0.1′;<\/p>\n

and make sure to have “old_passwords=1” in my.cnf <\/p>\n
